Tenaya Fleckenstein is not just a photographer; she is a storyteller who captures life’s most poignant moments and turns them into cherished memories. As the official photographer for Wine Country to the Rescue, her lens brings the bravery, dedication, and humanity of our firefighting community into focus, making her an indispensable part of our mission.
A Passion Born Early
Tenaya’s love for photography began at just 10 years old when she photographed her niece and nephew. That early passion grew as she honed her skills as her high school’s yearbook photographer, mastering a photojournalistic style that continues to define her work. “My photos are meant to translate the emotions of life into memories forever,” Tenaya shares, perfectly encapsulating her approach to photography.
From Firefighter to Photographer
Tenaya’s deep ties to the fire service began as a volunteer firefighter in Healdsburg, where she met her husband, a CAL FIRE Battalion Chief. Though she retired her turnouts to raise her children, Tyler and Tate, Tenaya’s connection to the fire service remains strong. Now, she documents the heroism of local crews as they respond to emergencies and train for challenges others would run from.
“Being the official Fire Department Photographer is not something I get paid for, but it is deeply rewarding,” Tenaya explains. “Because I have been in their shoes, I want to show how amazing they are.”
A Versatile and Passionate Photographer
While Tenaya’s work with the fire service is at the core of her contributions to Wine Country to the Rescue, her photography spans many subjects. From weddings and newborns to architecture and landscapes, Tenaya’s lens captures the essence of her subjects with authenticity and artistry. “I don’t specialize as some do,” she says. “I attribute that to the fact that I love all aspects of life. It’s the tears of joy and laughter at your wedding, the sweet soft skin of a newborn, or even the interactions of a family.”
Tenaya’s “day job” in construction management further fuels her passion for architecture, enabling her to capture the beauty of buildings and landscapes both near and far.
A Dedicated Advocate for Firefighters
Tenaya’s role as the photographer for Wine Country to the Rescue highlights her commitment to supporting local first responders. Her images don’t just document—they inspire, celebrate, and remind us of the sacrifices made by those who protect our communities. Her work is a testament to the bravery and unity of our firefighting community.
